Were you looking for a decorative
concrete or clear
decorative concrete.
A very common method of
coloring a concrete surface is chemical staining. One of the major
ingredients in concrete is limestone, and during chemical staining, the
chemicals involved react with the lime in the mixture to create
brilliant colors and patterns. The downside to this method is that if
your concrete is older, your results may vary with the amount of lime
that has leached away over the years, or the uneven surface due to the
predictable ware of years of feet. As this simply colors the concrete
it’s self, it won’t cover any imperfections or variations already
existing in the concrete. A “mottling affect” often occurs when using
chemical stains that turns the color into brilliant, brilliant shades
that will really catch the eye.
There are a number of methods of using this type of coloring. Some of
them involve bags of sawdust to act like sponges and give a defuse
texture to the coloring, others involve tools that aren’t very unlike
airbrushes. Any number of methods can be used when it comes to
chemically staining your concrete surfaces.
